Low carb diets: This diet makes eating a slice of bread a capitol offense. And noodles? Forget about it! It’s strictly protein with this diet, and plenty of it. Unfortunately it does not include enough of it to make you feel satisfied.
Low fat diets: This diet is just the opposite. No meats, no fats. Even the other foods you can eat are limited. This is just another feel miserable plan that many have bought into in recent years.
Mega exercise/Low calorie diets: While the basic premise isn’t bad; exercise and caloric limits, the plans that have come out have been absurd. When we exercise, our bodies need more fuel. If you take on a rigid exercise plan and then begin to limit the amount of food and calories you take in, you are cheating the body of much needed nutrients. No one is saying exercise is bad. It’s great! If you are going to exercise, however, give your body the fuel it needs. (That fuel does not include a chocolate cake and a cola!) The fuel it needs is a variety of foods and if you want an occasional snack, that’s fine too!
Why they don’t work! Our bodies need carbs for short term energy and proteins for long term energy. What does that mean? It means that our bodies NEED carbs and fats. It’s not only our bodies that suffer when we use these types of diets either. Our brains need a variety of nutrients and substances to function properly. They are now discovering that those who have been on low carb diets are suffering from memory loss. I remember when I was in college studying medicine that was a discussion we had; Brains need carbs to function. Now, years later, it is being proven.
What does work?
- Taking in the nutrients our bodies need on a daily basis
- Consuming calories in such a way that our bodies are fueled but not overwhelmed. Eating the right foods at the right times. (Remember, carbs = short term energy and protein = long term energy
- Consuming our meals in several smaller portions throughout the day instead of three huge portions.
- Keeping the body from shifting into starvation mode and holding onto the extra weight.
- Using a common sense diet approach such as calorie shifting.
Taking the above approach and having the materials available to help you understand the how and why of the plan is the only way your body can drop weight and at the same time get the fuel it needs for everyday living. We do NOT have to starve ourselves! Finally, there is a diet program that understands that.
A word about exercise: Most of the time, if you look at an exercise regimen (especially if you haven’t been terribly active in a while) it looks like you are training for an Olympic event! Honestly, most of us who start diets just haven’t gotten a lot of exercise and to look at some of the programs, well, it would discourage anyone. The truth is exercise does work. That doesn’t mean you have to go out and spend $1500 on equipment or plan to spend 3 hours a day at a gym. What it does mean is that combined with a sensible calorie shifting plan, adding a little exercise is excellent. It’s not necessary, but still a good idea. Even if you just start a walking program and stick to it, your body will thank you. That’s just a little food for thought. (Sorry, that’s diet humor there.)
Shifting your calories throughout the day will cause your body to burn fuel, increase metabolism and allow you to lose weight. This is all done in a way that is healthy for the mind and body and doesn’t make you feel miserable. Whether you have tried diet programs before, (there is that word again!) you will be amazed at the calorie shifting diet plan and how you will not feel hungry. Our bodies need fuel. That is an undisputed fact. What matters to weight loss is that we consume the right nutrients at the right part of the day. Our bodies need different fuels depending on what it is called upon to do at any given time of the day. Our brains need constant fuel. If you are depriving yourself of needed nutrients, you brain cannot work well and neither can your body.
The calorie shifting plan gets your body burning calories throughout the day without starving it. Basically, that is metabolism at work. If we stuff our bodies three times a day, or starve it, our bodies will not constantly burn energy sufficiently. Using the calorie shifting diet plan gets the body burning fat and calories evenly throughout the day.
Now, you want to hear the best part of calorie shifting? The plan is in increments of 11 days! That’s right, 11 days. In that time you will see results. On top of that, even though you do not feel starved while on the daily plan, the calorie shifting diet plan gives you free days between increments in which you can eat what you want. Sweet! There is no reason not to try this plan. It is simple, easy, it works and it allows for human nature by giving us days to be less than faithful to the plan. Best of all, IT WORKS! This is the last diet plan you will ever need and I guarantee it will be the easiest diet you have ever been on.
